We spent New Year's Eve with the McNicoll's. It was great fun. We ate paella and a green bean salad and bumble berry pie for dessert. As soon as the pie was eaten, we dashed off to the rec centre for an evening of skating and swimming. We've done this for a few years now, and always have a good time. The kids enjoy being a part of the big celebration and I like being out with friends where there isn't a lot of alcohol involved. We climbed out of the pool around 11:00 pm, the headed back to André's and Wanda's house for the final countdown. 10...9...8...7...you know how it goes. The kids, armed with pots, pans and wooden spoons, made lots of noise for the neighbours and generally had a grand time. When it came time to come inside an hug and kiss everyone, I got all choked up. "Happy New Year!" Yeah, but is it going to be happy? Can we just skip directly to 2010? I am really not so sure I want to do 2009. I am thankful for good friends and family who will drag me through this whether I like it or not.
